Sustainability Program
At Naturecan, we put nature at the heart of everything we do. After all, we depend on healthy ecosystems for all our needs β for food and shelter, energy and clothing, clean air and water, and even pure CBD oil.
As the consequences of climate change and other ecological crises become evermore real and catastrophic, we feel we all have a responsibility to act now. Thatβs why weβre doing everything we can to minimise our environmental impact and protect the planet for future generations.
Climate Action - What weβre doing to help
1. Weβre Carbon Neutral
In 2022, Naturecan became an officially certified carbon neutral company. This is a significant milestone in our sustainability journey, and we couldnβt have achieved it without the support of our loyal customers. Thanks to you, we have been able to support carbon offset projects around the world and completely eliminate our carbon footprint.
What does carbon neutral mean?
A βcarbon neutralβ company is one which has net-zero carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. This means that all the carbon emissions of the business have been measured and reduced to zero through a combination of in-house measures and external offset projects.
How have we become carbon neutral?
Our three-year journey towards carbon neutrality has involved three key steps:
1. Measuring our carbon footprint
2. Reducing our emissions
3. Offsetting all remaining emissions
1. Measuring our carbon footprint
With the help of ClimatePartner, we measured all the carbon emissions generated by our business.
2. Reducing our emissions
A number of in-house measures have helped us to significantly reduce our emissions, including:
The majority of our employees work remotely, which cuts the emissions normally caused by commuting and powering large offices.
We have worked to make 78% of our products vegan, reducing our carbon footprint by lowering the demand for animal products.
Although we deliver to over 200 countries worldwide, we only have warehouses in six countries to reduce the emissions caused by powering these facilities.
Our CBD is sourced from hemp, which is carbon negative. This means it absorbs more CO2 than is released during farming, reducing our carbon emissions.
3. Offsetting all remaining emissions
We have eliminated all other emissions generated in 2021/22 (59,332 kg CO2) by supporting three external offset projects:
Clean oceans, Plastic Bank, worldwide
Clean drinking water, Kono, Sierra Leone
Wind energy, Northeast Region, Brazil
Clean oceans, Plastic Bank, worldwide
The Plastic Bank project protects the climate indirectly by stopping plastic from entering the ocean. The ocean has a stabilising effect on the climate β it stores one quarter of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and traps over 90% of the heat created by greenhouse gases. Pollution, warming and plastic waste can all negatively impact this stabilising function.
The Plastic Bank project encourages people in Haiti, Indonesia, the Philippines and Brazil to collect plastic waste and take it to local collection points, where they can exchange it for money, drinking water, food and even school fees.
Clean drinking water, Kono, Sierra Leone
This project is reducing carbon dioxide emissions and deforestation by giving communities in the Kono region of Sierra Leone access to clean drinking water. Households in this region typically use wood fuel to boil and purify their drinking water, which generates CO2 emissions (an average of 10,000 tonnes per year) and relies upon cutting down trees, which trap carbon from the atmosphere.
By working with local communities to restore and maintain 57 wells, this project is helping to secure easy access to clean drinking water while protecting the climate.
Wind energy, Northeast Region, Brazil
This project is reducing carbon emissions by implanting and operating 14 wind farms in Brazilβs northeastern states of PiauΓ and Pernambuco. Wind farms are a clean, emission-free energy source that do not involve the burning of fossil fuels.
The energy that these wind farms create will help the region to reduce the carbon emissions it would otherwise have generated had the same energy been produced from fossil fuels, and contribute to the countryβs renewable energy supplies.
2. We plant a tree for every order
Tackling deforestation and poverty
At Naturecan, we understand that our health depends upon the health of the planet. Thatβs why we give back to nature wherever possible and plant a tree for every order placed.
We plant trees because they are essential tools for mitigating global climate change and biodiversity loss.
Despite their ecological importance, over 15 billion trees are cut down every year.
We plant trees in Kenya, Madagascar and Mozambique to help reverse deforestation, and to tackle extreme poverty by supporting the livelihoods of local communities.

Our Partner
Eden Reforestation Project
In order to achieve our goal of planting one tree per order and helping thousands of people in extreme poverty, we have partnered with the Eden Reforestation Project.
Their βEmploy to Plantβ scheme gives local community members a life-changing income which enables them to buy essential items such as food, shelter, clothing and medicine.

3. We source from certified organic hemp
Protecting ecosystems
We source our CBD oil from certified organic hemp in Oregon, USA. Using organic farming allows us to reduce our environmental impact, as it uses no non-organic fertilisers and fewer chemical pesticides than conventional methods.
This benefits the planet by protecting soils from degradation, water from contamination via runoff, and organisms from harmful compounds β which can in turn lead to significant increases in biodiversity.
But the benefits donβt stop there.
By keeping the soil and surrounding ecosystems healthy, organic farming also allows us to grow healthy hemp plants that are free from contaminants, and this helps us to guarantee the purity of our CBD oil.

4. We donate $600 a month to the World Land Trust
Mitigating biodiversity and habitat loss
The World Land Trust is an international conservation charity that protects the most biologically important and threatened habitats in the world.
Founded in 1989, it funds partner organisations to create reserves and provide permanent protection to habitats and wildlife.
To date, the World Land Trust has helped secure more than 2.4 million acres of threatened habitat in 20 countries.
