13 May Do CBD gummies really work?
CBD gummies are one of the most popular CBD products on the market, offering a fun, easy and tasty way to get your daily dose. But do they live up to the hype? Read on to find out.
CBD (or cannabidiol) is a natural compound found in the Cannabis sativa plant.
One of around 140 known cannabinoids, it is the main active ingredient in hemp-derived products, including CBD oils, CBD capsules, and CBD gummies.
Unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is the controlled cannabinoid that produces a cerebral high, CBD is not intoxicating or addictive, and has been declared “safe and well-tolerated” by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
What are CBD gummies?
CBD gummies are sweet, chewy candies infused with CBD. They’re available in a range of flavours, colours and CBD concentrations.
Some gummies are made with CBD isolate, which contains only CBD and no other compounds from the hemp plant, while others are created with broad-spectrum CBD, which contains a variety of beneficial phytochemicals, including CBD and other minor cannabinoids, with little or no THC content.
A major benefit of broad-spectrum CBD over isolate is that all of the plant compounds in the extract work together to enhance its overall effectiveness, through a phenomenon known as the “entourage effect”.
To harness the power of plant-based CBD, we use a broad-spectrum CBD distillate in our gummies range. Naturecan CBD gummies are available in two forms: CBD vegan gummies (10mg or 25mg) and CBD gummy bears (10mg). All have non-detectable THC (0.01%) and undergo strict third-party lab testing to guarantee their purity, potency and safety.
Why choose CBD gummies?
Gummies are so popular because they offer a quick, fun and tasty way to take CBD. They make it easy to manage your dosage, as each gummy contains the same amount of CBD, and can be taken discreetly without any equipment. They’re also great for people who don’t like the taste of CBD oil or find it difficult to take CBD capsules.
How long do CBD gummies take to work?
Like other ingestible CBD products, gummies have to pass through the digestive system before entering the bloodstream, which means that it takes longer for the CBD to take effect (30-90 minutes) than CBD oil drops.
However, these effects can last for approximately six to eight hours; so, while they are not ideal for people who need to feel the effects of CBD quickly, they are a good option for those looking for a sustained, slow-release effect.
Do CBD gummies work?
While research into the health effects of CBD is limited, early evidence shows CBD may contribute to reduced anxiety, depression and pain, and improved sleep quality.
However, these studies usually focus on pure CBD oil, not gummies. Therefore, there is no scientific evidence that CBD gummies themselves “work”, although there is anecdotal evidence that they can deliver some of the potential benefits of CBD, in a similar way to other CBD products.
What to look for in CBD gummies
Most CBD products, including gummies, have not yet been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). This means that their purity, strength and CBD concentration tend to vary from brand to brand. In addition, many products do not really contain the concentration of CBD stated on the label, so you may not get what you think you’re getting. To make sure that you choose safe, high quality CBD gummies, look for:
- A trusted, reputable brand
- Proof of third-party testing (such as a certificate of analysis)
- Less than 0.2% THC content (for broad-spectrum CBD gummies) – Naturecan’s gummies have non-detectable (0.01%) THC
- CBD that has been extracted from approved hemp (ideally organic, US-grown)
How to take CBD gummies
Simply chew until the gummy has completely dissolved, to allow the CBD to be completely absorbed through the oral mucosa.
We recommend starting with one or two 10mg gummies per day, and you may increase this dosage gradually until you notice the desired effects.
The UK FSA (Food Standards Agency) recommends that adults do not take more than 70mg of CBD per day (the equivalent of seven 10mg gummies), including any additional products, so please ensure that you do not exceed this amount.
Following this guidance, you can manage your daily dosage based on what works best for you, and combine CBD gummies with other products if desired.

Overall, CBD gummies offer a fun, simple and delicious way to take CBD. While they may take longer to work than CBD oils or vapes, their effects can last for up to eight hours, and this makes them a great choice for people looking to feel the potential benefits of CBD over a sustained period of time.
